The Sahlgrenska University Hospital (Swedish: Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset) is a hospital network associated with the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden. With 17, employees the hospital is the largest hospital in Sweden by a considerable margin, and the third largest hospital in Europe. It has 2, beds distributed across three campuses in Sahlgrenska, Östra, and Mölndal.[1] It provides emergency and basic care for the , inhabitants of the Göteborg region and offers highly specialised care for the million inhabitants of West Sweden.[2] It is named after philanthropist Niclas Sahlgren.

History

Sahlgrenska University Hospital was formed in by the merger of three hospitals: Sahlgrenska Hospital, Östra Hospital, and Mölndal Hospital.[3] The Sahlgrenska University Hospital has been operated by the Västra Götaland Regional Council since its formation in [3]

Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset (SU) är Sveriges största sjukhus och ett av de större i norra Europa. Verksamheten hade en omsättning på 19,4 miljarder kronor Sjukhuset bildades den 1 januari när akutsjukhusen Sahlgrenska sjukhuset, Östra sjukhuset och Mölndals sjukhus slogs ihop. Sedan 1 januari är SU en del av Västra Götalandsregionen.

Uppdrag

Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset bedriver länssjukvård för de cirka 1 miljon invånare som är bosatta i Storgöteborg, och högspecialiserad vård för invånarna i Västra Götalandsregionen och övriga Sverige.[2][3] Totalt har sjukhuset ansvar för 21 olika typer av Nationell högspecialiserad vård, jämfört med 13 vid Karolinska universitetssjukhuset i Stockholm.[4][5] Dessutom bedriver sjukhuset betydande forskning, i huvudsak tillsammans med Sahlgrenska akademin.
